The strange, the beautiful, the melancholy. Here’s the soundtrack to one of my favorite dark fairy tales.
We all know lots of symphonic music for Halloween season, including the vampiric “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor” by Bach and Moussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain.”
Today, I would like to present for your appreciation “Death and the Maiden,” by Franz Schubert.
It tells the tale of the same name: About a beautiful maiden who is stalked by, resists, and eventually rests in the comforting arms of Death himself.
Take a listen, and try and visualize the story unfolding in your mind.
Preferably with a hot cup of tea and a thunderstorm or two happening outside.
Spooky Tidings, all!
